The Bugs ‎– Emotion (LP)

€9.95

For fans of Dutch punk and Ultra-wave, Emotion is highly recommended and an essential collector's item. Although originally released in a limited run, the record is a perfect example of the creative explosion that took place in the Amsterdam underground in the early 1980s. With its striking cover art, it stands as a magnificent document of the era—both visually and musically.

Simone Mansveld’s tight, angular basslines, combined with mechanical drum patterns, form the backbone of the tracks. The guitar work is sharp and cutting, complemented by Marjan Schnitger’s synthesizer parts—a novel addition at the time—which lend the record its dreamy yet menacing 'wave' edge. While the band was previously known for energetic punk sets and covers like "Teenage Kicks", Emotion reveals a more serious, melancholic focus on atmosphere and sonic texture.

Shortly after this release, the band would undergo a further transformation, shifting towards dub and reggae rhythms (as heard on their later single, "Amstel").
