"Atlantic Crossing" feels like Rod Stewart finally taking a big leap across the pond, swapping his UK rock roots for a smoother, more soulful vibe. It’s got that perfect mix of tender ballads and groovy tracks, and Stewart’s voice just owns every moment, raspy and full of character. Some songs feel a bit too polished, but honestly, the writing and his delivery keep you hooked the whole way. This album is all about exploring new ground, and Stewart does it with confidence and style.
My favorite track, “I Don’t Wanna Talk About It”, is straight-up heartache in song form. Rod’s voice shakes with raw emotion, and every line hits right in the chest. The lyrics are so personal, you feel like he’s talking directly to you. And even though it’s simple musically, it’s insanely powerful — a classic that sticks with you forever.
The live version of “I Don’t Wanna Talk About It” with Amy Belle is just MONUMENTAL. Also: this version’s been one of my dad’s favorite songs since it dropped, and of course he passed that love on to me. The orchestra in the back, the crowd singing along — it’s like floating in heaven. I get chills every single time I hear it. It’s without a doubt my favorite song ever made. Amy Belle’s vocals cut so perfectly with Rod’s rasp, making every note hit extra hard. The crowd’s energy just adds to the magic, and the little pauses and swells feel like they’re pulling your heart right out. Seriously, this live version takes the original and launches it straight into legendary territory.
Then there’s “Sailing”, which is basically cinematic perfection. Rod’s voice just glides over the sweeping instrumentation, capturing this mix of longing and hope that hits different every time. It feels like you’re on a boat, drifting through the song’s story, and the lyrics hit right in the feels. It’s emotional, epic, and exactly the kind of ballad that reminds you why Stewart is a legend.
Overall, "Atlantic Crossing" is proof that stepping into new territory doesn’t mean losing yourself. It’s polished but still real, heartfelt but easy to vibe with, and every listen shows off just how damn talented Rod Stewart really is.
