Charlélie Couture - Les Naïves CD
Charlelie never disappoints, with excellent tracks like "Le jardinier dort" (The Gardener Sleeps), "Jacobi marchait" (Jacobi Was Walking), and "Angélique bigoudis" (Angélique Hair Bigoudis), which is very funny (I remember an excellent live version from the 1995 tour).
Delightful vignettes, like little slices of life: "Mona," "Chanson de la petite rivière" (Song of the Little River), in which he again evokes his concerns for the environment ("A river flows down in the valley / like a little river that would let itself go / gradually silted up, calmed / suffocated, slowed down"), "Les enfants du dimanche" (Sunday Children), and "L'amour divorcé" (Divorced Love)...
His brother, Tom Novembre, also sings backing vocals on several tracks. I remember loving it when it was released, and 25 years later, it still sounds great, proof of the quality of the songs. Charlelie remains an exceptional and versatile artist in French music, and that's all the better!
