The Magic Bullet Theory – Poems And Explosions CD
‘Just put on some sunglasses and act tough,’ said the supreme despot when I asked him what on earth I was supposed to do with this picture. ‘Ah,’ I thought, ‘I can do that.’ And damn, it worked! With my black-rimmed sunglasses, I caught myself starting to gently nod my head. Along with the guys from The Magic Bullet Theory, four Danes with all different backgrounds. Fortunately, I know how to keep time, so I don’t get into trouble when funky Brownian guitar chords suddenly come along, or when I have to wallow in familiar blues rhythms, or when I have to headbang to Pearl-James-esque guitar riffs, or when I try to hum along to Neil Youngian harmonies, or when I suddenly appreciate AC/DC-esque (glam) rock, or when I scream along to screeching yeahs, or when I dance along to seventies rock ’n roll.
I can hear the explosions from the title, but I can’t understand the lyrics – the poems? That is to say, not so easy. The Magic Bullet Theory surely considers the idea of ‘original rock ’n roll’ a paradox, at the very least an overrated concept. But there I sat, headbanging and all. ‘What is happening here?’ I thought. It’s not entirely my kind of music, but the guys from The Magic Bullet Theory certainly get me going. And that can easily be called an achievement.
