Grandaddy – Sumday CD
With Sumday, Californian Grandaddy does not break new ground, the band neatly stays on the path that was set with the masterpiece The Software Slump three years ago. But where The Software Slump still heavily experimented with electronics and composition, Sumday has become a pure pop record, or actually remained so, because a bit more guts would certainly have done the album good.
Sumday is a no-nonsense album, musically a lot more superficial than its predecessor, but that somewhat bitter aftertaste is quickly forgotten when listening to brilliant songs like El Caminos In The West and Now It’s On. Subtle space pop for those who like Mercury Rev and Flaming Lips.
