Catatonia – Greatest Hits (2 CD)
€4.95
Formed in Cardiff in 1992 by Cerys Matthews and Mark Roberts, Catatonia spent years building an underground indie following through Welsh-language releases and early EPs. Their massive commercial breakthrough came with the 1998 multi-platinum album International Velvet. This era defined them as icons of the "Cool Cymru" movement, a cultural wave that put Welsh music and arts into the global spotlight.
- Disc 1 (The Hits): Gathers the band's essential radio-friendly singles and post-Britpop anthems from their peak commercial years. It is anchored by Cerys Matthews' distinctive, versatile vocals and sharp songwriting. It includes their major UK chart-toppers like "Road Rage," "Mulder & Scully," and "Dead From The Waist Down".
- The Sudden Split (2001): After intense touring, massive media scrutiny, and internal exhaustion, the band released their final album, Paper Scissors Stone, in 2001. Later that same year, Catatonia officially disbanded, making this retrospective collection a definitive closure to their fast-paced career.
- Disc 2 (The Rarities/B-Sides): Targeted directly at dedicated fans, this limited second disc adds lesser-known album tracks and hard-to-find B-sides from their 1996–2001 era on Blanco y Negro records. It showcases the band's more experimental, raw indie-rock roots before major stardom.
