he Dutch new wave movement of the 1980s yielded many hidden gems, but few captured the tension between biting post-punk guitars and melodic synth-pop quite like Social Security. Released in 1984 on VIP Records (and later distributed via Top Hole Records), their second major effort, the mini-LP Dancing Head, stands as a masterclass in atmospheric, urgent alternative pop. Co-produced by keyboardist Martin Ploeg alongside engineer Michiel Hoogenboezem at the famous Studio Spitsbergen, the album perfectly crystallizes the band's evolution from raw underground artists into sophisticated darkwave architects.

"Dancing Head": The album's titular opener sets an immediate, anxious tone. Driven by an unyielding rhythm section, the track functions as an exhibition of frontman Jos Haijer’s unique, adventurous lyricism and erratic vocal delivery. It acts as a perfect counterweight to the more polished tracks on the record, retaining an underlying frantic energy.

"The Wedding": This track is the undisputed crowning jewel of the LP. Built on a foundation of moody, uptempo synth leads and an instantly infectious bassline, the song became a staple on the airwaves, spending weeks on the VARA Verrukkelijke Vijftien radio charts. Despite missing out on mainstream Top 40 chart success, its lush arrangement balances melancholy and danceability so effortlessly that it remains a cult classic of the era.
