In 1970, The Flamin' Groovies found themselves at a historic crossroads. While their home base of San Francisco was dominated by the long-winded, psychedelic jams of bands like the Grateful Dead, the Groovies resolutely opted for the opposite: short, tight, gritty rock 'n' roll. This release from the French label Eva Records (issued in 1983) is not a traditional live album. It is a recording of a private concert—essentially a rehearsal gig—performed for a handful of friends.

What we hear is the band's raw, primal essence, captured just before they recorded their masterpieces Flamingo (1970) and Teenage Head (1971). The album offers a fascinating glimpse into the interplay between Roy Loney’s snottily defiant proto-punk vocals and Cyril Jordan’s razor-sharp guitar work.
