It’s the strength of pastiche that lays in the subtitle, THE JOY OF POP, of the 1981 Mick Ness record Leave me your ears on Torso, catalogue number 333, which is now upgraded to the main title of a shortened album on Out Of Print.
An hommage in the first place to JOY Division and the POP Group, but also to contemporaries like The Cure, Gang of Four, A Certain Ratio and other influential bands at the beginning of the eighties. Mick pays tribute as a soloist. As an omnivorous music lover who appreciates Elvis and Schnittke as much as Bacharach, James Brown, P.I.L or Abba he went to a studio in Belgium and recorded twelve tracks‘in the spirit of’ his beloved, contemporary musical colleagues,with an original and unique attitude.
Armoured with guitars, bass, saxophone, violin and toy instruments, he was accompanied by long-term friend Pieter Bannenberg, who would take care of all of the percussion. Engineer Ward Kuczynski and myself as a producer completed the foursome..."
