Lil Wayne ‎– Tha Fix Before Tha VI (LP Dark Rose Vinyl)

At his best, Wayne proves he can still bend language in wild ways. On tracks like "To The Bank," he shreds the beat with frantic flows and punchlines. Songs like "Slip" feature his iconic, complex rhyming skills over a smooth, lush instrumental. Additionally, the Missy Elliott-sampling "Kat Food" lets him float effortlessly over a quirky beat. 

The tape has wild experiments that do not always stick the landing. For example, "Tuxedo" leans into a rap-rock style that divides fans. Meanwhile, "Tity Boi" attempts an electronic dance (EDM) crossover that feels out of place and poorly mixed. Wacky hooks also hold back some of the project, with bizarre refrains sometimes masking fantastic verses.

Tha Fix Before Tha VI sounds exactly like a collection of B-sides. It contains bars for the sake of bars, but it lacks the polished cohesion of a true studio album. Fans of his raw, rambling mixtapes will find enough to enjoy, but casual listeners will likely feel it's a mixed bag.
