Dave Stewart And The Spiritual Cowboys – Honest CD
Honest is the second and final studio album by English musician Dave Stewart and his backing band the Spiritual Cowboys, released in 1991 on RCA Records. Featuring 13 tracks with a total runtime of approximately 55 minutes, the album was primarily written and produced by Stewart, who also served as lead vocalist and guitarist.
It marks Stewart's continued exploration of rock and pop sounds following the band's self-titled debut from 1990, incorporating elements like programmed drums and guest contributions from musicians such as violinist Shankar. The Spiritual Cowboys lineup on Honest included notable collaborators like Pretenders drummer Martin Chambers on drums and backing vocals, alongside bassist Chris Bostock, keyboardist Jonathan Perkins, and guitarist Nan Vernon, who co-wrote one track.
Key songs such as "Whole Wide World," "Out of Reach," and "R.U. Satisfied" highlight the album's blend of introspective lyrics and eclectic instrumentation, with additional vocals on the closing track provided by a chorus including Carol Kenyon.
Engineered by Manu Guiot and mixed largely by Stewart himself, the record was distributed by BMG across Europe and the UK.]Critically, Honest received mixed reviews for expanding on the debut's musical scope while being perceived as somewhat less focused and pop-oriented.
