Monica Triga – Choro E Canto (CD Signed)
'Choro e Canto' contains mainly her own compositions. An album with melodies, rhythms and lyrics with which Triga proves that she knows how to richly renew the music of her roots and yet respect the origin.
Her music is characterized by a very personal approach to traditional fado with a lot of room for jazz, choro, baião and montuno, morna and Portuguese folklore. In her personal interpretation of Portuguese blues, swinging rhythms go hand in hand with the melancholic 'saudade'.
The five accompanying musicians with musical backgrounds from different parts of the world are all dedicated to Portuguese music. The fully acoustic ensemble consists of: Hans van Gelderen on viola (acoustic guitar), Jeroen Becx on guitarra portuguesa (12-string Portuguese guitar), Dion Nijland on double bass, Rob Stoop on accordion and Gilbert Breuer on percussion.
The new CD also features three special musical guests, namely: Andro Biswane on guitar, Friedmar Hitzer on violin and António Lameirinhas on bass. The production was in the hands of Steve Teunis. Mónica was brought up with fado. She grew up among the Portuguese guitars and the fado singing of her family who emigrated to the Netherlands. Her roots lie in the farmland of the Beira Baixa and the province of Ribatejo, an area with many fado traditions.
After an experimental journey of experience along different musical styles, she returned to her roots unsatisfied. In this, it was paramount that she did not want to imitate anyone or become anyone's successor. Inspired by the greats of fado, including Carlos do Carmo and Amália Rodrigues, she searched for her musical identity, which would later be called fado mundial.
