Evan Johns & The H-Bombs – Bombs Away (CD Signed)
In the '80s, most rock fans associated rockabilly with such relatively pallid chart contenders as the Stray Cats. This makes the output of Virginia-to-Texas guitar madman Evan Johns and his faithful companions the H-Bombs that much more exhilarating. BOMBS AWAY, the group's third album, was the first H-Bombs set to be produced by ex-Springsteen sideman Garry Tallent. He knows just how to capture Johns and the boys' astonishing energy without adding unnecessary studio polish. The result is a brilliantly live-sounding album that leaps out of the speakers and chases listeners around the room. All 12 tracks are solid rockabilly, but the album's Louisiana-themed centerpieces "Boudin Man" and "Oh! New Orleans" stand out, while "Dance Frannie Dance" showcases some of Johns' wildest playing.
