The Nomads ‎– Outburst (LP)

This album isn't all covers there's 4 originals and the covers they choose to cover are classics such the _Third Bardos 'Five Years Ahead of My Time'_ (one of the greatest songs of the sixties or any generation!), the Kinks, the Standells, Alex Chilton etc. So I guess from where they were coming from and the strength of both the covers and the originals they couldn't go wrong too often. There was a huge interest in sixties garage bands during the early half of the decade and few bands did such a good job of doing justice to those songs as The Nomads did.

Apparently the Swedish rock scene is very strong and the knowledge of rock history is comprehensive. I guess when the nights start getting long and the weather starts to freeze over then there's not much left to do but drink booze, take drugs, fuck and listen to music. Obviously from listening to this record that's what The Nomads were into and a coupla of Swedes I've managed to run into are into the same stuff so hell I should get over there.

Actually the comparison with Australia is quite accurate too although we haven't got the excuse of absolute freezing temperatures. Anyway I don't want to denigrate what The Nomads achieved with this release and I don't want to label them as being the greatest cover band on earth, but they were! They produced a fair bit of vinyl during the decade so check em out if you get the chance.
