The Apers ‎– The Buzz Electric (LP Clear Vinyl With Black Smoke)

On their second full-length album, the quartet sticks to the same formula as their debut: simple, straightforward pop-punk tracks. However, the Rotterdam-based band now leans slightly less on the Ramones style, enriching their punk sound with more melody and vocal harmonies. Yet, there is no need to worry about them making any commercial concessions; call it maturing gracefully without losing sight of the punk ethos. That is precisely the sentiment behind their opening track, "Here To Stay," in which they take a dig at punk purists: "I took my time, I took my chances / I’ve worked my way up with respect / I’ve let the air out of the tires, created more than just an act."

They are also capable of dishing out blunt criticism of musical trends—as heard on the high-speed track "Too Many Backpacks At The Show," where they take aim at the emo boom. Overall, however, the album exudes a pleasant, positive vibe, driven largely by songs like "Brand New Day," "Please Don’t Change," and the aforementioned lead single.
