Double Veterans ‎– Space Age Voyeurism (LP Red Vinyl)

€24.95

The young guns of Double Veterans make an infectious mix of garage rock and psychedelic pop with a big dose of sixties beat on their first full-fledged album Space Age Voyeurism. The band consists of frontman/guitarist Lee Swinnen, second guitarist Thomas Valkiers and drummer Niels Meukens.

Space Age Voyeurism fits seamlessly into the sixties garage rock revival of the eighties that gained a foothold mainly in the United States, with bands like The Fuzztones and The Cynics, and Australia with bands like The Lime Spiders, The Screaming Tribesmen and The Hoodoo Gurus. But Belgium also made its presence felt at that time with The Paranoïacs and The Scabs. And the frontman of the latter band happens to be called Guy Swinnen, Lee's father indeed.

This hereditary burden translates into a varied record with twelve songs. Opener ‘Cocktail’ is a nice sixties pop song in which Swinnen’s voice reminds us of Dave Faulkner (Hoodoo Guru’s). ‘Graveyard’ and ‘Slick Cut’ are genuine garage punk stompers. In ‘I, You’ and ‘Leave Me Alone’ the band takes you to higher spheres: psychedelic pop in the vein of contemporaries Jacco Gardner and PAUW. Title song Space Age Voyeurism is a moody lo-fi instrumental.
