The Death Letters ‎– Post-Historic CD

€4.95

You don't need a bio to tell you that the name of the duo from Dordrecht is a tribute to blues legend Son House. Listening to their debut from 2009 is enough explanation. The dirty blues rock with a punk edge has been exchanged for post- and indie rock on Post-Historic. However, nothing has been lost in terms of energy. Death Letters rolls over the listener even more than on their debut, but there are also moments of - tense - peace. For example, in A Silent Voice Destroys and A Room A Story A Beautiful Memory, Death Cab For Cutie is touched upon, in which the subtle addition of piano is particularly colourful. At other times, they switch to the melodic indie rock of The Appleseed Cast and ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead. It is not clear to what extent the latter is an influence of producer Chris Smith (who also had this band from Austin in the studio) or the motivation to choose him. His stamp on the open and energetic sound is. Whether the change in sound, which the gentlemen make on their second album, will be well received by all fans of The Black Keys and White Stripes - whom they reached with the first album - is impossible to say. But those indie and post-rock kids will embrace this gem with love. And Son House will also be able to appreciate this pure energy. Because just like with the blues, this also comes from the heart with Death Letters. And that explodes from Post-Historic.
