Gabriel Rios – Ghostboy CD
Gabriel Rios with its already gold-plated fusion of Caribbean rhythms, Puerto Rican passion with modern electronics and urban lifestyle.
Anyone who has ever been to the Caribbean has certainly stumbled upon the incredible variety of "overproofs". Among overpercentage alcohol varieties, of course, the rums take a predominant role. There is a subculture that experiments kamikaze-like with rum and creates crazy cocktails with names such as "Liquid Cocaine", "Instant Death" or "Flaming Orgasm".
Gabriel RÍOS' music corresponds to the explosive blend of a good drink. Listening to him also has something intoxicating. GABRIEL RÍOS uses the soulful rhythms of the Caribbean, filtering and crossing them with contemporary electronic music. "Ghostboy" is an album that combines Gabriel's Caribbean influences with the electronica of Bogaert.
On the cover of "Ghostboy" you can see Gabriel RÍOS' mother as a young girl, the samples come from Latin pioneers Willie Colón and Ruben Blades - some of the most intense sounds ever left Spanish Harlem. The songs sung in two languages (English, Spanish) are full of dark and illuminating moments, passion, nostalgic feelings, past friendships. And not as innocent as it seems. The voices on "Victor" were recorded in Guatemala: "street kids that play at killing each other".
