The Train ‎– Gentlemen Street (LP) / Hans Vermeulen

€7.50

After the well-known band Rainbow Train disbanded and key figures like drummer Shell Schellekens departed, Hans Vermeulen renamed the group simply "The Train." The LP Gentlemen Street, marks a transitional period during which iconic vocalists Anita Meyer, Dianne Marchal, and Martha Pendleton also left their vocal mark on the collective for the last time.

On this record, Vermeulen once again demonstrates his brilliance as an arranger and producer. The songs strike a smooth balance between pop-rock, West Coast influences, and sophisticated harmonies. Thanks to the contributions of top musicians such as guitarist Hans Hollestelle and bassist Jan Vermeulen, the album boasts an incredibly tight and professional sound. The superb backing vocals and harmonies provided by the regular female singers elevate the tracks to a higher level.

It is precisely the interplay between Vermeulen’s distinctive voice and the soulful female vocals that gives the album its unique, warm character. The title track, "Gentlemen Street," and the energetic "Don't Ever Fancy the Singer of a Rock 'n' Roll Band" (both also released as singles) stand out as highlights, showcasing Vermeulen’s knack for crafting catchy, hit-worthy songs. Furthermore, with the epic, nearly nine-minute closing track "Going Strong," the band demonstrates its ability to explore a wide musical range.
