Matthias Thurow – Cornucopia (LP)
Thurow composed the album using equipment that was revolutionary at the time: the Fairlight CMI and the PPG system. While many artists of that era became bogged down in cold, mechanical synth-pop, Thurow used these "digital paintboxes" to let intuition guide the music.
It is best described as a blend of minimalist ambient à la Brian Eno, the cosmic, cinematic atmospheres of Tangerine Dream, and avant-garde arrangements that break free from the conventions of traditional song structure. The album exudes a deep sense of calm yet remains constantly fascinating, thanks to the unpredictable, organic shifts in the sounds.
