The Fix ‎– Cold Days (LP Red Transparent Viny)

Hailing from Lansing, Michigan, The Fix existed for only a brief window between 1980 and 1982. Despite their short lifespan, they were foundational in defining the ultra-fast, raw sound of American hardcore. They famously holds the distinction of releasing the very first record on the legendary Touch and Go label (the Vengeance 7"). Cold Days serves as the definitive retrospective of a band that burned out before the genre exploded globally.

Musically, Cold Days is a masterclass in blistering speed, angular guitar work, and sheer hostility. Unlike the more melodic approach of some of their Southern California contemporaries, The Fix favored a dark, gritty, and relentlessly driving rhythm section paired with Steve Miller’s frantic, snarling vocals.

The production is raw and unpolished, exactly as early hardcore should be. Tracks like "Vengeance" and "Draft Me" hit with a blunt-force trauma that sounds remarkably ahead of its time, bridging the gap between late-70s punk rock and the extreme speed of the mid-80s thrash scene. It is a seamless listen, despite being pieced together from separate sessions, because the band’s furious energy never wavers for a second.
