Wipers - Follow Blind CD
Follow Blind is an unheralded watershed of an album for The Wipers. Greg Sage's production efforts have resulted in a recording that sounds incredibly modern and fresh; at the very least, with production values 10 to 15 years ahead of its time. It seems like Mr. Sage was always out in front of the curve, but here he masters his studio and the talents of Brad Davidson on bass and Steve Plouf on drums (in this reviewer's humble opinion, the definitive Wipers lineup). His guitar playing, in particular his rhythm, has never been better. The title track kicks things off with a strong alternative rock vibe that foreshadows 90s' Grunge. Its sound, in contrast to all previous Wipers LPs, is alarmingly stark. Follow Blind is chock full of Wipers gems, with the aforementioned title track, Any Time You Find, Against the Wall, and Losers Town being amongst their best ever material. The coda to the album's last track, Next Time, envelops you in a wall of sound that is practically transcendent and has to be one of the best endings to a rock song ever recorded. Any fan of Grunge, Hard Rock, Post-punk, or Rock'n'Roll in general will dig this album.
