Out – X-Position CD
Out are French and were discovered and produced by metal success guarantee Colin Richardson, who famously played a part in the breakthrough of Machine Head and Fear Factory. As expected, "X Position" sounds like a mixture of everything that could currently represent modern metal. The guitar squeals in riffs like the one in "Who's Alive" speak volumes, as does the fact that the sampler and keyboard player is firmly integrated into the band. Add to that a few Korn-esque harmonies and a slightly psychopathic-sounding frontman who can both sing and scream. With songs like "Lie No Limits" and "Left In Limbo," this concept works, while others can safely be forgotten—like the almost outrageous "Bio Burger," which one can only hope is a joke. And the proto-staccato verse riff of "Watch Me In" has probably been played by every amateur band at some point. Out are truly enjoyable when they slow down and play it bad, as in "Like A Fish" or the closing track, "Les Voix Du Silence." Not a bad album, even if it doesn't exactly shake up the music world.
