ILA – Felt (LP Mini-Album White Vinyl)
Opener Chamber - about saying goodbye to a loved one - is full of simplicity, sadness and emotions. It is a gentle introduction to a great EP that is more than once about the capriciousness of life. On Deity, the trio pulls out all the stops for the first time. In this song, Ila settles accounts with a narcissistic person from her environment. The new songs sound grander and were musically provided with multiple layers, neatly polished with the warm voice of Çiçek. With Bert Vliegen and Michael Badger-Taweel (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Amyl & The Sniffers), experienced people were brought on board to make the album sound good. A golden move, as it turns out.
The dark Eternitiy sounds pitch-black and is, in our opinion, one of the strongest songs on the record. The melody sounds addictive and continues to reverberate wonderfully. Darkness galore, but of an addictive kind. Foy, with its Eastern psychedelic influences, is less appealing and is nothing more than a warm-up for the final uppercut with which the band beats us to a pulp a little later. Leave Me Dry, the powerful single preceding the record, is one lump of pent-up anger and energy. The song describes the evolution from desire to frustration and self-pity. The synergy between the powerful sound and the tearing guitars reminded us of Savages for a moment.
Closing track Rebirth, a song that llayda wrote after her father had a stroke, we already knew from the Sentimental Mixtape. Here again a strong indie rock track with a wonderful vocal approach. Ila sounds like an angel who has to exorcise her demons, intriguing and exciting, light and pitch-black in one song.
